Combi-Tank (Lauter Tun /Hot Liquor Tank)

The Combi-Tank together with the Mash-Kettle-Whirlpool Tank, platform, staircase, base frame,
control panel and manifold piping form one unit – Brewhouse producing Wort.

Lauter Tun (top unit of the Combi-Tank) is designed to Lauter, that is to separate spent grain from Wort.
(for more info see Brief Brewing Info)
Hot Liquor (water) Tank (bottom unit) is designed to supply hot water used for brewing and sanitation.

Material:
stainless steel AISI 304
thickness: cylinder 3mm, bottom 4mm
Inner surface treatment:
2B surface treatment, welds grinded to Ra 0,8 µm.
External surface treatment:
cold-rolled plates grinded to SB.

Polyurethane - thickness 150 mm, density 1,09 g/cm³
External-Jacket:
Stainless steel plate - thickness 1,5 mm, both cylinder and conical bottom

The Combi-Tank is vertical stainless steel insulated vessel with flat top. Vessel has a conical floor with inverted conical center and has four runoff points (4 x DN 40), enabling liquid to run off through a sight glass, where clarity is checked. Liquid flows to mash tank that serves also as kettle. On the bottom of tank sits milled stainless steel false bottom. Milled slots are 0.7 mm wide. Liquid is then pumped to the kettle through 120 mm wide stainless steel pipe.
Tank is equipped with rakes powered by 2.2 kW frequency changer controlled geardrive. Recommended ideal rotations are 1 RPM. Two pneumatically controlled pistons enable vertical movement (up to 150 mm) of rakes that have two functions:
  • at forward rotations, rakes cut through the raw material sitting on false bottom
  • at reversed rotations, spent grain is pushed out through the side man way door
  • For thorough emptying of spent grain, rubber lined rake is used.
In the flat top of tank is inserted round 450 mm man way door. Tank is equipped with rotating mechanical sprayball and under the false bottom there are 8 jets, all for cleaning and sanitation purposes. At the top, sparge head is placed for washing out sugars and an elbow for equalizing pressure in the tank. Circulating pump is used during Lautering process. In this way, quality and maximum yield is achieved. Tank has a side view window and a light.
Tank is equipped in upper and lower part with light and side window. Heating of the bottom part (boiler) is done by steam heating coil at 4 bar pressure and temperature 150°C. Inlet of steam to steam jackets is regulated by solenoid valves at the jackets inlets and by means of manually operated regulating valves form the platform. Temperature in the tank is registered by temperature sensors, which digital display is positioned in the Beerhouse control panel. To check visually the level, the tank is equipped with vertical level gauge. Cylindrical tank part is insulated with polyurethane, bottom with steam jacket is insulated with rock wool.
